Minneapolis' annual Northside gathering, Juneteenth was held last Saturday just about all day. Located in Theodore Wirth Park, Juneteenth is in Senate District 58; Congressman Keith Ellison's old district before he was elevated to the United States Congress by the voters of the Fifth Congressional District in 2006.
Unfortunately, there was another shooting at this year's Juneteenth event. Attentive witnesses will notice that there was a shooting at last year's Juneteenth event as well. Shootings at Juneteenth are not really all that uncommon, unfortunately.
Keith Ellison once stated that the reason for shootings in North Minneapolis can be blamed on the war in Iraq. He claimed that the war is chewing up too much of our national treasure that could be going toward crime prevention. And he also made the unsubstantiated claim that youth in North Minneapolis are incited to commit crimes because of the war violence in Iraq.
So now that violence is down in Iraq, how does Representative Ellison explain Saturday's spate of crime in Wirth Park? Perhaps there were shooting in the park because the Isaelies are testing their airforce for bombing missions on Iran.
On another front in the Juneteenth event of Saturday, there was a parade. Barb Davis White participated by making an appearance, riding in the parade. Interestingly, there was no sign of Congressman Ellison until someone phoned him to report that his opponent was in the Juneteenth parade. I'm told by my sources that this seems to be a trend with Mr. Ellison. He is not so keen on campaigning hard, but will do so when he has to make a showing, lest it be said that he doesn't care.
And we do know that Keith Ellison cares. He cares about crime. That why he supported Kathleen Soliah/Mary Jane Olson. We know he cares about crime because of his support for Mumia Abu-Jamal and Assata Shakur.We know that Keith Ellison cares deeply about crime because of his support for a Vice Lords defendant on trial for the murder of Officer Haaf and his attendence of a Gang Summit in Kansas City with Willis, a cop killer.
Keith Ellison got the call and made an impromptu appearance in the Juneteenth parade. He just may know that Barbara Davis White wants his job and is asking for the votes of the Fifth.
