Once in a while the system works and the will of the people is actually reflected by our elected representatives. Yesterday, Congress voted to shoot and kill the bailout proposal. By doing so, they helped slow the insidious creep of socialism into the American fabric.
An event like yesterday almost erases my cynical belief that America is drugged by the popular culture. Do they perhaps understand Reagan’s warning to us that ‘government is not the solution, government is the problem!?’ Let’s face it – more harm has been done to the American way of life by ‘good intentions’ than almost any foreign invader. I cite the following arenas where citizens would have been better served if Congress would have just stayed in bed.
EDUCATION: Why does Washington have to collect our taxes, siphon it through a DC bureaucracy and then send it back to the local districts with all kinds of strings attached? Does federal intervention make education better – or just more expensive? I think the data suggests the latter.
RETIREMENT: Current projections are that Social Security will be bankrupt in the next decade or so. Any reasonable debate of reforming this dinosaur is met with shrill, apoplectic hysteria. Against this backdrop nothing will change until senior citizens get in their chairs, head to DC and have ‘The Million Man Roll.’
HEALTH CARE: Medicare and Medicaid are going belly up. The only federal response to reform is to kick the can down the road while they order another transfusion or wealth.
HOUSING: Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae have been de facto ATM’s for the Democrat Party. They have resulted in a near crisis in lending and the conventional wisdom within the Beltway is to allow the people who broke the system to fix it (which is the answer to a political joke: How does a politician say ‘screw you?’ – Trust me!’)
Now, I don’t want to be painted as an alarmist but exactly, precisely, specifically why are we giving more power to these imbeciles? Why doesn’t the media report what kind of thieves are in the hen house? Why aren’t our schools teaching our kids about the Separation Doctrine and the moral foundations necessary to run a representative republic?
When the dust settles, the battleground of politics is a smokescreen for the real war being waged – a spiritual war. This is why I can look at characters like Reid and Pelosi and Shumer and get a chuckle. They’re tools! They have constructed their alternate universe through a self-appointed wisdom where the darkness of their own ignorance is filled by the sunshine they blow out their collective arses.
When I think things are dire I smile. I remember Who is in charge – someone who doesn’t distinguish right from left; but right from wrong.
You got to remember – God has a sense of humor. If He didn’t it would all be over.
