 In case you have not heard yet, the Vets for Feedom Tour was to roll into town and do a promotional event at Forest Lake High school today from 9-11 am. This was scheduled, set through the principal, and set to go. Then...
People, many from outside the school district, complained (read: did not want veterans to be heard talking their living history stories to American public school students). The principal folded to this pressure, and it's over. Now let's forget for a moment that Pete Hegseth is a graduate with honors from Forest Lake High school where was to speak. Theses 2 clips from Allie Shah's Strib article sum the cancelation up: "We decided to cancel," Massey said. Organizers of the National Heroes Tour then scrambled to relocate the event to the American Legion building in Forest Lake. The visit, which U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Stillwater, had been scheduled to attend, is sponsored by Vets for Freedom, a national organization run by Pete Hegseth, a 1999 graduate of Forest Lake Area High School who served with the 101st Airborne in Iraq in 2005-06.
"I think it's extremely unfortunate that a school would bow to the political pressure of outside groups and not bring in a veterans organization," Hegseth said. "Are we saying that patriotism and duty and honor have no place in our public schools?" So far, the tour has visited one school, albeit a private school.
Why would I thank the far left for this infringement on free speech? Well I guess that already answers it. They have shown once again who wants freedom of speech to be practiced. Rather than offering to have their own anti-military forum, say on the following week, these people pitch their point until the school concedes to banning these fine young vets tell their story. Nice work. Why? because once again it gives far more press to Pete Hegseth and his VFF effort. He has already been on the top of the Democrat Underground, Michale Moore's site, several of the metro area radio shows, and it would be a safe guess, he will be on many national radio and TV shows before the day is over. So instead of talking to 150 students, a handful of teachers and perhaps some parents, the VFF message is getting broadcast all across the nation for free. Re-create 68? Yes, please.
