Barb Davis White who has announced her candidacy for the US house seat in CD5 has launched her website. She is seeking the endorsement of the Republican party in what should be a spirited fight against current seat holder, Keith Ellison of the DFL. She has been making appearances at the CD5 area BPOU conventions and will surely be at as many as she can in the coming weeks. Here is a schedule of those coming up. The film on her opening page is from my district caucus night SD45, and the man to her side is Gregg Prest who is running for state house.
CD5 is very tough territory for Republicans, but Keith Ellison's negatives are considerable. Getting to know Barb in the last few months, I think it will be very natural for her to use her winning personality and optimistic spirit as wedges on Ellison who is about as cheery as Richard Nixon. I am not saying I think Barb will try to be just the goodwill and cheer candidate. She has been very open in her embracing of solid conservative principles in all the speeches I have seen, and her site reflects this. The areas of focus in this phase of her campaign are Permanent Tax Cuts, Fighting Inner City Violence, and Illegal Immigration. Surely the high crime rate in many parts of CD5 is a major issue that will resonate with voters. To what extent this will work in a Federal race remains to be seen, but bringing attention to problems like crime is a far better goal than bringing home the bacon to keep constituents happy. Barb's slogans in her menu bar are Diversity in Ideas • Transparency in Government. Good positions; and genuine, thoughtful diversity—not just cosmetic diversity—is a strong suit for Barb.
