Team Coleman is capitalizing on Al Franken's comments about how we won't even notice a 10 cent gas tax increase. Mr. Franken at a Twin West interview said: “I’m in favor of at least a five to ten cent tax increase. And the fluctuation of gas prices is that everyday anyway. I don’t think people would notice it so much.” (TwinWest Chamber Candidate Forum, October 5, 2007)
Number Al in the "Happy for you to pay" camp. Here's the Team Coleman release and video:
As Minnesotans everywhere prepare their taxes, the Coleman for Senate campaign today released a webvideo called "The Franken Tax" that focuses on Al Franken's endorsement of a ten cent-a-gallon gas tax increase, something he claims people wouldn't notice. The video features average Minnesotans, filling up at the pump, showing that, in fact, the people of Minnesota are noticing the recent tax hike. As the video shows, middle class Minnesotans simply can’t afford the gas tax hike supported by Franken. "Al Franken is out of touch. His idea that Minnesotans wouldn’t notice a ten cent gas tax shows how out of touch he is and how dangerous he is to hardworking middle class families,” said Cullen Sheehan, campaign manager. “Senator Norm Coleman flatly rejects any tax increase that will negatively impact middle class families."
