Quote Of The Day

Written by Derek Brigham on 28 January 2009.

I'd have to give yesterday's honor to Mike Pence, Congressman form Indiana who nailed it with this:

"The Democrat bill won't stimulate anything but more government and more debt," Representative Mike Pence of Indiana, chairman of the Republican conference, said Tuesday. "The slow and wasteful spending in the House Democrat bill is a disservice to millions of Americans who want to see this Congress take immediate action to get this economy moving again."

And in case you have not heard, the house was as divided as oil and water on the Obombulus vote. For those armchair analysts who argue there is no difference in Democrats and Republicans, please explain this.

With no Republican support, the House approved an $819 billion stimulus plan that will serve as the cornerstone of President Obama's efforts to resuscitate the economy, an early victory for the new president [Really? Careful what you wish for.]  but still a disappointment because of the lack of Republican votes. The measure passed 244 to 188, with 11 Democrats and 177 Republicans voting against it.

Bully Update
: King spotted another fine quote of the day from Pence:

The stimulus bill passed the House without a single GOP vote. They'd've gotten no credit had they supported it, so there was no gain to helping. According to the Wall Street Journal's Political Diary, Rep. Mike Pence reportedly said to Pres. Obama at the Congressional confab yesterday "You mentioned that this bill had been negotiated in the House. Let me make it clear that there has been no negotiating in the House, because Democrats didn't include us in the process.
