I attended the MN Regional Saturday and brought my 6th-grade neighbor, where we cheered on and met some of the team members of my husband's team # 2177 'The Robettes" - who stole the hearts of many fellow male student competitors attending. One gave a Robette team member his phone number, and said if she didn't want it she could pass it to the other girls on the team. Ah, young love...

Not only did they out-drive with their robot "Princess Consuela", they managed to place second overall in the finals. The StarTribune featured them in a video. You can catch more videos and stats from the weekend event here.

This event is brilliant — and to see shy retiring science types (including my husband) put on costumes, cheer, dance and run to the aid of other teams in mechanical trouble was inspirational.

Another humorous note: Senator Amy Klobuchar sent in a video to congratulate the teams and droned on about her daughter competing in a science fair in Virginia. My husband said many kids were laughing and asking, "What is she talking about?!" Masochists can download and watch A-Klo's droning here.
