In another study which screams for an open and honest debate on school vouchers and/or tuition tax credits, America’s Promise has issued a study which paints an even darker picture for public education than previously thought.

America’s Promise is a private non-profit foundation whose CEO is General Colin Powell.  Powell called the trend in public education nothing short of a “catastrophe.”  Their study, linked here, conducted a study of graduation rates in urban schools.  The good news for us, locally, is that the Minneapolis School District is fifth best among metro areas at graduation rates.  The bad news is that that Minneapolis graduation rates stand at a pathetic, paltry and inexcusable 43.7%.

From the report:

"The principal school districts of America’s 50 largest cities collectively educate 1.7 million public high school students – one out of every eight in the country. However, these 50 education agencies account for nearly one-quarter (23 percent) of the 1.2 million students nationwide who fail to graduate with a diploma each year."

Nationally, three in 10 public school students do not graduate from high school.  In Baltimore, MD the graduation rate has fallen to just 34%.  (In Baltimore suburbs, the rate is 80%).  Black and native American students have a 50/50 chance of getting a high school diploma.

If we want an ignorant next generation (a much more malleable voting bloc for liberals), the public school cartel is delivering!
