Beware of Fred

According to Zogby, Fred Thompson Fred-Thompson-Failed-Hearings Nov-07  has turned his tour of Iowa into a late-breaking surge.  Although he is only at 12%, he is tied with McCain.  A strong third place would bode well, particularly if Fred can turn his southern folksiness into a first-place finish in South Carolina.  Perhaps Iowans were swayed by the commentary provided by David Limbaugh two days ago in which he said:

“Fred is the only [candidate] I don't have major reservations about….I find his lack of "fire in the belly" refreshing. He strikes me as one of the few presidential candidates since Ronald Reagan whose primary motivation is not personal aggrandizement but rather serving and leading the nation in very troubled and dangerous times. I see him as almost being drafted into this project, and his refusal to drool publicly over the prospect of becoming the most powerful man in the world is positively delightful.”

This campaign is getting interesting.  The candidates are/will be forced at some point to look and sound conservative.  For many of them it will require back-tracking.  That’s when the wheels fall off their bus (buses?).
