Crocodile Tears

Paul Douglas, WCCO weatherman and hack climatologist, is unemployed!  He was informed by his overlords at CBS that his services would no longer be needed.  Ostensibly, CBS is saying that they are performing a systemic blood-letting of all their affiliates in order to soften the blows of decreasing ad revenues.

Mr. Douglas’ unemployment is, no doubt, exacerbated by two inescapable realities.  First, whatever his compensation was from WCCO, he was overpriced.  Their numbers have been declining for years (along with all other network news affiliates).  There are plenty of petite, perky 24-year-old communications grads who, with a hint of cleavage and a winsome smile, could draw more viewers at a fraction of the price.  Secondly, Douglas, along with his co-conspirator, Don Shelby, have been providing cover for a leftist agenda for years.  Their constant drone about all things Left (with a heavy emphasis on man-made global warming), are editorial positions that, from what I learned in Journalism 101, are not supposed to have any place in a "news" production.  The steady drip, drip, drip of negative emails to ‘CCO management from those of us who recognize an agenda when we see one, probably didn’t help Douglas’ fate.

Personal observation:  Anyone who watches local news does so at their own intellectual peril.  If you’re looking for a body count from the latest plane crash, they’re okay.  If you’re looking for insight – better to trust you favorite blogger – at least our biases are up front!

The question yet to be answered is A) how short of a rope is Don Shelby on and, B) whether Douglas’ departure will cause Shelby to moderate his political tone.
