Pre-Debate Pre-Flight Notes

Written by Derek Brigham on 08 October 2004.

Debate #2 tonight and noted nail-bitting from a fair amount of my friends in the Bush camp. Why? I ask myself. FDOG Founder and stuntwear coordinator, D.A. Sperle, offers this bit I have to agree with:

I caught bits and pieces of Bob Davis this morning and now I'm hearing O'Reilly repeat the same thought. That thought is: If the President loses the debate tonight, it's all over for him and Kerry wins the election. Their larger point is that the President needs to come out swinging and keep swinging.

This theory, "if the President loses the debate tonight, it's all over for him", is hogwash. Even if the President wins, does anyone actually think that the media arm of the Democratic party is going to admit that Bush won? No! The media will not let Bush win. He would have to dismantle Kerry so badly, that there would be no way the media could spin a Kerry win. Although it's possible, I think it's unlikely. Kerry is, after all, a "well spoken fool", saying anything and everything, no matter how legitimate, to appeal to every man, woman, child and foreign leader.

I think Bush can win tonight. It's a shame that the mainstream media can't be objective and see these debates for what they are and these two men for who they are.

There is also a lot of talk about the numbers and how they will be used as a negative in the Bush column, Pretty good spin by the left if you ask me. Plymouth Top Dog, Guy Collins, offers this:

The facts are stubborn things, and I know the media / liberals hate to deal in facts, but the numbers in this report don't lie. The economy is at least as good now as it was during the average of Clinton's presidency, and is remarkable in terms of recovery from the recession and 9/11. The economy is in great (yes, I said and will stand behind GREAT) shape.

Guy offers up this Piece from the Heritage Foundation: Framing the Economic Debate. This paper presents a basic statistical overview of the American economy and prosperity that Americans today enjoy. Down on King Bainian's Farm he offers up: Addendum on economic news today.

In terms of the war, Victor Davis Hanson, today sizes the Iraq developments in what looks like a very good war when historicly evaluated, that has moved ahead despite setbacks and botches along the way. He breaks down 4 key evaluators

Drawing wisdom from that past, there are at least four critical issues that must always be addressed if we are to create a stable Iraq under the auspices of a broad-based consensual government. So far the occupation has been plagued by mistakes, false assumptions, and incompetence — and yet we find ourselves still with a good chance of success.

On the flip side, Laura Ingraham knows what Democrat's are still "Scratching their heads raw about. Kerry--like all doves--is unpersuasive on national security issues because he doesn't realize certain basic truths that have guided American policy for decades.

1. The world is a dangerous place, filled with deadly people. Not just people who are misunderstood.

2. Most nations in the world look out for themselves. We cringe at the idea of a 'global test' because we know who's going to be grading the test.

3. America is not the world's problem--America is the world's solution.

Tonight, what the media will paint as Bushs' weak positions, weak links and shaky ground when looked at without the anti-amerikan chomsky-colored glasses, clear thinking people will see both the war, the economy, and the overall tone of America and the world markets doing very well.
