Barb Davis White To Run Against Keith Ellison

Written by Nancy LaRoche on 26 October 2007.

ImageBarb Davis White tossed her hat in the ring for US Congress at the CD-5 Full Committee meeting this week. Full of energy and passion (an understatement), she seeks to unseat Keith Ellison next year. She's running a campaign with the theme, "Diversity of Ideas" — and to hold on to the truth and the constitution. White is a Reagan conservative (a video of Reagan is front and center on her web site home page).

Committee members were impressed with Barb White's qualifications and energy. She was asked about her residency and campaigning for the 5th District. White said she grew up in north Minneapolis, works in Minneapolis, and sleeps in Greenfield. She knows the city and its residents well, and is anxious to meet everyone in the 5th District.

Barb White's history:

Barb White’s strength of character has its origins in a multicultural family history that, while plagued for two generations by harsh religious persecution and racial intolerance, has all the markings of the quintessential American success story. When born in Queens Hospital in Minneapolis, Barb began a life deeply influenced by people who faced and strove courageously to overcome tremendous societal and personal obstacles.

Barb’s maternal grandparents, Ida and Benjamin, were both Orthodox Jews who survived Nazi persecution by fleeing to Ellis Island, New York - she from Lithuania and he from Hungary. Barb’s great-aunt, Ida’s sister, was not as fortunate, but perished with the many others in Auschwitz.

Ida and Benjamin married and settled to raise their family in Minnesota, where they escaped the fate of many Jewish immigrants who, at that time, were being sent back to Europe. It was in Minnesota that Barb’s mother, Rose, was born and raised. As a young woman, Rose met and fell in love with Claude Penland, a Black Catholic North Carolinian.

Barb White's present:

Barb is a well-known and respected international speaker. Influenced by such public figures as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., for his drive and work ethic, and by such private figures as her teachers, who gave her life-altering confidence, courage, and inspiration, Barb has consistently worked for the betterment of humankind. She has succeeded, both as a volunteer and as a paid professional, to constructively influence the lives of many.

As volunteer, Barb has conceptualized and driven numerous initiatives, including programs serving the homeless and HIV/AIDS victims, life skills courses for prison inmates, and community television programming. She has also worked with purpose over the years to improve opportunities for young people. Some of the organizations she has worked through to achieve this are Edina’s Storefront Youth Action, Teen Challenge, and the Salvation Army.

She is a proud conservative Republican, and we're proud to announce her candidacy.
